Carrie Underwood’s lips at CMA Awards 2022 rekindles face injury story
Carrie Underwood‘s performance at the 2022 CMA Awards rekindled the story of her facial injury which happened a couple of years ago.
One viewer claimed that the accident “has made her look very plasticy” to which another fan explained: “She had to have her upper lip completely redone. Similar to surgery for a cleft palate.”
Another fan also defended the singer and wrote: “She literally had to get facial reconstruction due to injuries. Do your research before you spew rude comments.”
In November 2017, Carrie had a scary incident that left her with injuries on her face and a broken wrist.
The 39-year-old country star was walking her dogs when she fell at home, leaving her with 40 to 50 stitches above her lips.
Speaking to Vulture in 2018, Carrie spoke of the “freak” facial injury and explained that she had to take a break from recording songs until her mouth recovered.
“I had wanted to be in the studio sooner than I was, actually recording these songs, but I had stitches inside my mouth, outside my mouth,” she told the outlet. “It was physically impossible.”
How did the accident happen?
Speaking on The Bobby Bones podcast (via Hello!), the country star revealed precisely how the frightening accident happened.
“I was taking the dogs out and I just, I tripped. There was one step and I didn’t let go of the leashes. Priorities!” Carrie explained.
“So that’s why my left hand’s fine. But I went to catch myself and I just missed a step. If I had fallen anywhere else, I would have been perfectly fine. But it was one step that messed everything up.”
In a previous Instagram post, the singer shared a picture from the set of her Love Wins music video which featured a look of her scarred lip.
Carrie was flooded with messages of love and support from her fans as this was the first close-up image of her face after her injury.
Carrie addressed plastic surgery rumors
In another interview, Carrie addressed plastic surgery rumors that her accident was a cover-up for procedures done on her face.
Speaking to Redbook in August 2018, the singer denied the rumors and said: “I’m on some magazine every other week for something crazy. It’s a little sad, because the truth is just as interesting. I wish I’d gotten some awesome plastic surgery to make this [scar] look better.”
She continued: “Life is full of ups and downs, and I might have had a few more downs than ups last year.”
