Everything we know about Harry and Meghan's baby so far

From clues to what the baby might be called to it’s godparents, here’s what we know so far …

Sussex Royal took to their Instagram account to confirm details of the birth: ‘The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their firstborn child in the early morning on May 6th, 2019’ – 5.26am to be exact.

It was also revealed on their Instagram account that the baby is a boy.

They added: ‘The Duchess and baby are both healthy and well.’

Before the baby was born, Serena Williams, 37, may have let slip its sex in an interview with E! News. Royal fans were convinced she was going to have a baby girl, but have now been proved wrong!

Baby Sussex was born weighing 7lbs 3oz.

After the baby had met the Queen, it was announced his name is Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

At school, Prince George is known as George Cambridge, so this baby is expected to go by the surname Sussex.

It won’t be a surprise if the baby ends up with A-listers and aristocrats for godparents seeing as their parents’ close friends include Serena Williams, 37, and 57-year-old George and Amal Clooney, 41.

The Queen has legal custody of all her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren, which means that Harry and Meghan will need to ask the Queen on matters including upbringing, travel and education.

In February 2019, Meghan flew to New York City to celebrate her baby’s upcoming birth with her friends.

It’s been reported Meghan has hired a doula to help her welcome her royal baby into the world.

The woman who is rumoured to have supported Meghan when she gave birth is Lauren Mishcon, who’s been a doula in London since 2008.

Meghan reportedly wanted a home birth in Windsor, but had to be rushed to Portland private hospital for her labour.

We know about the baby’s paternal cousins, but what about maternal?

Meghan’s half-sister, Samantha Grant, has three adult children and her half-brother, Thomas Markle Junior, also has two adult children, who will all technically be the new royal baby’s cousins.

The royal christening gown has been worn by every one of the royal babies. The original gown was worn by 62 of them over the course of 163 years – including Prince Harry.

The original gown is now too fragile to wear, so a replica has been made.

With friends like celebrity parents Robbie and Ayda Williams, George and Amal Clooney, and Serena Williams and her husband, Alexis Ohanian, there’s no doubt the baby will be playing with their star-studded friends.

Heirs to the throne used to be home-schooled by private tutors, but this tradition stopped when the Queen had children.

New dad Harry attended Wetherby Preparatory School in London, then Ludgrove School in Berkshire, before going on to Eton College.
